I saw somewhere that some mother used to think Shakespeare was gay once and she tried to get him banned from her child's school because she didn't want her kid reading books from a gay person.

First off that's mean, and why do people care so much about the author? Why can't they just read the books? Hate's so illogical

So placing them in a curriculum based on their ethnicity instead of merit? Unfortunately modern demographics don't line up with history at all. Colored people weren't even speaking english or had a chance to write it until a hundred years ago, and even then. The scales don't need to be "evened", they are uneven because we are talking about western canon not contemporary american racial politics
