>It's so tempting to see Arts & Humanities as noble for "Improving the Human Condition".
That's because, before we really learn about Engineering, we believe that our moods are best improved by really good stories, movies, beautiful art, etc. They are.
However, we don't yet notice or appreciate that we also have really good moods & better human conditions from not having to worry about so much death & disease affect our bodies and families. From safe water, bridges, buildings, electricity, computers, they are the backbone of our lives.
Yes, there are the rare events of exploding cell phones, or Flint-type bad water, but those are the rare exceptions compared to the hazards facing most humans just 100 years ago. Engineers & scientists gave us medicines, plumbing, building codes, new materials, and even Reddit, where we can talk about such important or trivial things as we wish.
