Mikael you will not be able to read this summer. The economy is in a slump, and this family is in dire straits. You will need to find a job to help out Mikael.

Good to see that AP English teachers are as unoriginal as ever.

Could they have picked more stereotypical book choices?

I know high schools are at least partly about protecting a common cultural vocabulary, but it would be nice to see a little more diversity in required lit selection, at least so we could stop talking about Catcher in the Rye and 1984 just because they're the only "serious" books anybody's ever read.

>> No.1015294

Replace Emma with Mansfield Park.

hurfdurf "brave blew wrold and 1985 bth dicsus da future of da wrold lets red them n tlk abot them" drufhdurf

Hmm...two female authors...seriously, what is it with high school teachers and "feminism in literature"? Yes, we understand they're talking about feminism: there's also a goddamn plot.

I read 1984 in AP Lit as well. Then again, I got put in the easiest AP Lit class in school(we read...seven books I think, and the only one that was above normal/Honors level was "Crime and Punishment"), and 1984 was required reading for the entire senior class.

>> No.1015482

Whoa. What a jejune list. Our AP lit syllabus was:

Thomas Mann, Buddenbrooks
James Joyce, Dubliners and Portrait
Vladimir Nabokov, Lolita
William Faulkner, Light in August
EM Forster, Howards End
William Golding, The Spire
Saul Bellow, Henderson the Rain King
TS Eliot, Four Quartets
Samuel Beckett, Waiting for Godot and Happy Days

and the inevitable Hamlet and Heart of Darkness

I read Brave New World and 1984 in AP Language & Comp, and now I'm reading Wuthering Heights, Invisible Man, and The Stranger for AP Lit...I have the second halves of Invisible Man and Wuth Heights to ready by Monday....fffffff (slow reader)

No, "jejune" just happens to be my favorite word, and I study Latin, so I know that "ieiunus" means "empty" or "lacking in nutritive content". Why, was "jejune" the word of the day today or something?

We had to read Moby Dick and about half the class got to read the abridged version in a group because they're "special". Then the day before the test the teacher held up the test and proceeded to read every single question and every single answer. That's the kind of school I went too

9th: Lord of the Flies (Maybe Romeo and Juliet?)
10th: Nectar in a Sieve
11th: lol vocab lists
12th: Hamlet

Everything else was short stories.

"Jejune" makes me sound like a book reviewer. Accusing you of squittering from the mouth every time you post would make me sound like an asshole. And it would force you to look up the archaic verb "squittering". So go do it.

Oh, well, it's the perfect insult for a book, or a reading list. Since it suggests there's nothing you can absorb from reading it.
