/lit/ - Literature

10148104 No.10148104 [Reply] [Original]

/lit/ went through many social changes throughout the past few years, but this latest iteration is the worst by far.

/lit/ went from being:
>half-decent discussion by people who at least tried to give a shit about literature.
>decent, but at least well discussed memes.
and finally to
>memes for the sake of memes, as well as generals.

I fear that this board is dead.

>> No.10148110

My ex girlfriend used to browse /lit/ so I KNOW there are girls here. I demand that girls post their locations and phone numbers regularly so we can try dating them.

>> No.10148115

It's actually much better than it was 6-12 months ago. Poltards and Memerson threads are still here, but less obnoxious. Overall bretty good. Still the best board by a mile.
>generals are bad
Literal autism. Containment tools only make boards better.

>> No.10148211

>>10148115
Yes, that's true, but you still have to keep in mind that most of the threads aren't about discussing certain books or other things about literature; instead they're just stale, reused discussions that have happened a thousand times before. The very definition of a meme.

Splitting literature and philosophy was a mistake as philosophy can only be shared through the written form in an intelligible enough format.

The meta should be changed to accomodate this fact lest we become what we hate: r/books

Mods should ban shitjewposters, or at the very least they should open a new confinement board for them to badly discuss Jewry in literature, history and so on. Let's be real, has anyone ever actually seen any change made to this site as a result of one of these meta thread? Because I haven't. They only exist for people to vent about how much they hate what the board has become.

Here is the one thing you can do if you want to make a meta thread productive: You can agree to actually start reporting certain posts. The reason shitposts don't get deleted as much as they should is because nobody takes the time to report them. I've had numerous cases where a rule-breaking thread has been sitting on the board for hours, I report it, and suddenly it's gone. So start reporting shit.

>> No.10149764

>>10149758
OP here. This is a good idea. We should first start to trim the fat by reporting more shitposts, and we should all start posting more original threads about actual literature we're reading, not just Harry Potter and GoT threads.

I'd speculate that's because only a couple people on this board are into poetry and most of them come here for the meme threads. when you actually become knowledgable about and read into a subject and try to talk about it here you realize quickly how everyone flounders around the subject and can't really do much beyond talking shit like a child

You browse /lit/, which is definitely the most Reddit board. LOTR threads, /sffg/, opinions on books consist of "I liked the prose" 99% of the time, not to mention every once in a while someone reposts a thread from r/books and people here respond seriously. At this point I have to assume that you're either a redditor trying to fit in or a buttblasted stormnigger.

>implying LOTR has no literary merit
>implying having a containment general is bad
>being obsessed with reddit/muh special meme club tribalism
I think you might want to switch boards to something more edgy and worthy of your astute underage mind.

My gf loves Kierkegaard, I've never actually read him. She reads philosophy for fun.
The truth is these girls just want nothing to do with bitter /r9k/ faggots.

I report every thread I see made by fucking londonfrog. I don't know why he chose /lit/ to post his endless whining, he vaguely references passing through the library like once every other thread.
I sincerely hope a mod has the mercy to permaban him from this entire site, something needs to give him the incentive to either make changes in his life or kill himself.

I made one of those threads to see what would happen; 24 hour ban. There's not a lot they can do about it if he's posting from mobile networks while moving around London as the IPs change all the time.
