First, for this to be true you would need said freedom of speech to be exercised free of rhetoric. On /pol/, this is completely untrue. They manipulate, misinterpret, generalize, cherrypick constantly in order to make their point. They don't even know about basic correlation/causation stuff and the problem of induction.
Second, you would need the vast majority of participants to have a decent level of expertise on the topic at hand. Imagine this scenario: a couple of hundreds of masons organize a meeting in order to decide whether eggs are good for your health or not. This is /pol/: a bunch of uneducated morons talking about things they don't knoe anything about.
Third, you're completely ignoring how echochambering reinforces pre-existent cognitive biases (which goes back to my first point).
Fourth, if free speech were indeed a dialectical truth machine, as you presume, that would mean that the liberal democracy is indeed the best political system, since it has free speech and the vast majority of people who live under it don't want to abandon it.
