Honestly, there are quite a few fanfic writers with a better grasp of story structure and conveying character than so many authors who get so caught up in their own ideas/worldbuilding.

Fanfiction gets a bad rep because most of it is indeed shit, but so long as you feel you actually learned something, don't feel ashamed. Who knows, this can very well be the foundation upon which you build your original work.
