What's the differences between Ignatius and KJV?

>> No.10119383

>>10119324
It uses the RSV which has better textual sources, more up to date scholarship, and uses contemporary English, plus it's a Catholic edition so it has the Catholic canon in its proper order and notes approved by a council of Bishops.

The Ignatius is not incomplete, protestantas' bibles lack a few books

I second the other guy (though my preferred is Knox), RSV-2CE is the gold standard for Catholics if you're looking for a modern, scholarly translation. I recommend specifically the Didache Bible, by Ignatius Press, which has tremendous commentary and study materials.

You can get the KJV with the Apocrypha included

>> No.10120072

>>10120066
The KJV lacks some of the apocrypha such as either Esdras 3 or 4 and some other ones where Catholic doctrines such as purgatory are based. However, it does indeed have most of the apocrypha.

Just opened that link and realized that Jesus is Joseph's son but produced through the Holy Ghost.
Neat.

And this was the manner of Christ’s birth. His mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, but they had not yet come together, when she was found to be with child, by the power of the Holy Ghost.

Actually it has all the Esdras books and 2 Maccabees which is used to support purgatory.

But they're in an Apocrypha section, not the canonical order, which isn't ideal. In any case, the RSV is a modern update of the KJV, there's no point reading an outdated protestant translation if you're a catholic.
