Why is self-knowledge, regarded as the highest philosophical achievement in Asian philosophical systems?

>> No.10093099

A somewhat generic answer but the response is appreciated non the less. Any one else able to go further in depth on this subject.

Because your own perception is the only thing directly accessible to your own perception and therefore the only thing you can make accurate assessments about (empirically). We can not know the world is real without knowing our eyes are real. We do know that we experience perception.

It isn't because most Asian philosophical systems conclude that the self is empty.
Western philosophy on the other hand has been cultivated around fertilization of the self for at least the past two thousand years.

The fact that you ostensibly have "direct" access to consciousness, mind, soul, etc. doesn't make your assessments about it more accurate (or less accurate about other objects of experience).

This guy is mostly right except that he paints the picture like a loser Christian, and also ignores that his Christian roots are actually Jewish roots.

Asians don't have heaven and hell. They didn't have the Jewish moral influence on their society. So, they were able to see things more cleanly. The self is the source. By understanding the self deeply, understanding of the world springs forth from that.

They also often promote the nullification of the self as a means of reaching peace, which the West never cared to focus on, and which is why progress accelerated in the West.

Wow. I was totally unaware that Jesus based His religion on Talmudic Rabbinical Pharisaism.

How did he get a copy of the Midrash, the Talmud, or the Kabbalah in AD 30? Did He order them on Amazon?

What denomination was He? Reform?
