There is no objective way to plan a story. But there are lots of great works on this subject. You're a writer. Study what people have written about the art form.

I would especially recommend you read books about screenplay writing. Don't try to stick to some checklist shit. Just learn why some stories work and how they work.

Writing the Blockbuster Novel is good too.

Yes, the problem is that the expression doesn't adhere to proper syntax. This stems out of common up to the point that this is introduced.

So you have this expression
> 2 * x - 3 = 13 - 3 * x
but instead you write it as its' shorthand version
> 2x -3 = 13 - 3x
So the multiplication is implicit. That's one part of how we end up with this shit.

The second part is they don't know about this:

People never do. So if you have
> 8 * 8 / 8
it doesn't matter if you do it as
> (8 * 8) / 8
or
> 8 * (8 / 8)
but in OPs case it does.

The third part is that noone knows that all these operations are binary. That means they take two operands. And (formally) you have to write parentheses around them all. So my first example
> 2x -3 = 13 - 3x
should, if properly written, be this
> (2 * x) - 3 = 13 - (3 * x)

But people neither know this nor care about it.

Look at any scientific paper/college textbook and you will see there is never ambiguity in the formula. If you can't write your equations in an intelligible way I guess you go teach math to 8 year olds.
