Hi /lit/, I have an english language question
Why is sex something you "have" and not something you "do"? Why is it that we say "having sex" and not "doing sex"? Why is it normal to say "lets have sex" but not "lets go do sex". Is there a good reason for this, or has everyone just agreed that we should use our language in a stupid way?

I think "sex" is a short form of "sexual intercourse" and you can't really "do intercourse" but you can "have" it.

Like we say "have a conversation" or "have an argument" or "have a fight" which is kind of similar.

I'm not a philologist, just my two cents.

Actually now that I think about it, your examples are socially oriented focusing on the interaction of two or more parties. I was comparing it to physical activities that are not necessarily required to be social. no wonder i'm still a virgin
