Just make a list of all the words you don't know every time you read, then after you finish, make flash cards and go through the stack regularly

I do this but I've been trying to find if there's been any books published for this to practice from. I get peeved anytime I read and come across a word I'm not familiar with, as can often happen with fiction because it's not used colloquially (usually it's some adjective in a description).

Get a study book for the literature GRE subject test. If you can do well in that test it's a good sign you have all the fundamental literary analysis tricks down

yeah I was thinking one of those GRE books but I assumed they'd have a more academic than literary bent
