Just finished I Am Legend last night, and my God, this book is so much better than the movie of the same name that it's crazy. Everything about it is just so much better than that Will Smith piece of shit.

ITT: Books that are superior to their film adaptations.

Also, "Come out, Neville!"
Who else came to love Ben Cortman at the end of the novel?

>> No.793913

i discovered the novel thru the movie

*shame*

i'll thank all the vampires in the world that there wasnt a happy ending in the book.

I can not express how much I hated that movie after I read the book. The novel actually depicts a man who must struggle to survive, a man who has nothing, except for the house he lives in and the survival skills he's learned since the Plague. They shouldn't have given Will Smith a dog, or that lady and the kid, or any of that crap.

Also, Ben Cortman FTW!

COME OUT NEVILLE!!

I 'read' this book thanks to the wonders of microsoft's text-to-speech, Microsoft Sam.

Let me explain, I had an operation on my eyes and I was told I couldn't focus on anything for long durations.

Anyway, initally it was pretty retarded listening to Microsoft Sam...but then I grew accustomed to it...His predictable monotony and odd sing-song like stress pattern were quite refreshing, in the sense that there wasn't any emotional bias to any of the words spoken, it felt like I was listening to a story rather than some audiobook fucker interpret the story for me with overly dramatic voices.

Also, when Microsoft Sam says Neville, it sounds like "Neeee-vil"; it says "crowsnest" instead of "crotch", bizarrely.

So now i fucking love Microsoft Sam, i made it read Ender's Game to me recently just to remember the good old days - I can read fine now.

Because audiobooks are lame. Also, I grew attached to the computer's rendition...

Why? The movie is still really good.

Totally different, bust still quite good.

I really like the dog in the book. It's really interesting how he didn't try to work on an antidote until he saw the dog.

Why would the film makers suggest it's similar to book by using the same title?

Also, it's annoying because they had the potential to use loads of great material, but they jettison it in favour of Will Smith driving around in a sports car without a fucking care in the world. FGSDSFSGSDIGNADDASGF

Looked at independently, the movie is alright. That's how one should look at most movie adaptations. I agree there was no need to use the same title as there was virtually no resemblance, but hell, it got more people to read the book.

ehh, the movie was alright, and you've got a point about getting people to read the book - I certainly didn't know about the book till the film came along.

lol no. The films are equally shitty as the books, but have Emma Watson in them, so they come out on top in the end.
