their styles are completely different but the way they are comparable is they are considered the two greatest rivals to Tolkien, with George R.R. Martin being a distant 3rd along with Leigh Bardugo etc

One author I like to recommend is Lord Dunsay. He wrote The King of Elf-Land's Daughter in 1924, a fantasy novel that has more in common with mythology than modern fantasy like Game of Thrones or Wheel of Time.

L. Sprague de Camp, described it as being on par with The Lord of the Rings in terms of its quality and influence. In his review of the 1999 edition for The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, Charles de Lint praised the novel as superlative: "It's not simply the beauty of the language, the astute eye for character, the hint of humor, or even the spell of legendry and wonder, but Dunsany's unique combination of all of the above. Even read today, with all the fantasy novels I've read, his work remains fresh and exuberant". Gahan Wilson also praised Elfland's Daughter lavishly, calling it "likely Dunsany's masterpiece" and concluding "that may well be the same as saying it could be the very best fairy story ever written".

Dunsay, like Tolkien, was a WWI (and Boer War) veteran from the British upper class. I think one of the reasons that generation produced so much great literature is because of the powerful life experiences they underwent. Most modern fantasy authors writing about war have not personally experienced war.

If these beloved fantasy novels are adapted for TV or film, they could surpass the popularity of George R.R Martin's Game Of Thrones.....

Mistborn Series by Brandon Sanderson is one of the best fantasy novel series of all time

The Kingkiller Chronicle - Patrick Rothfuss (one of the most inspiring epic fantasy sagas, it's been called the next Game of Thrones)

Throne Of Glass Series - Sarah J. Maas
>or her other popular fantasy series, A Court of Thorns and Roses

as well as
The Farseer Trilogy - Robin Hobb
The Broken Earth Trilogy - N.K Jemisin
The Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare
Gentlemen Bastards Series - Scott Lynch
The Burning Series - Evan Winter
The Folk Of The Air Series - Holly Black

Two of the biggest hacks of YA fantasy. It's the equivalent of thinking Harry Potter or Stephen King is good. Both of them produce books at a devilish speed and I'm quite sure every book apart from SLA part 1 is a first draft repaired by editors. Neither have had any original ideas. This whole thread is a joke.

That's the peak time for enjoying any work of fantasy fiction. Even ones with adult sexual themes and content, none of that is beyond the scope of what a 14 year old can handle.

After 14, any fantasy series we read is just trying to recapture the magic of what it was like reading fantasy novels when we were 14

Good thing there is a bunch of good ones out there to read

It will. Although Sanderson's dedication to a cinematic multi-verse might be a bad thing now that those are going out of fashion.

sanderson is passionate about fantasy, has great work ethics and is devoted to his fan base.
his works are still mediocre of course, but comparing him to sarah j who is like comparing a synthetic piece of shit produced with advanced industrial technics to an actual shit
it's merely another attempt at propping up mediocre female authors.

You understand Sanderson now tries to appeal to his LGBT audience in his books now, right? I think there's even a troon in one of the Stormlight books
