I was talking to my friend about his latest stories. I liked them very much. however, I was surprised about the different atmosphere they displayed. Whereas he used to write in an ironic-realistic style, his new stories were more romantic-idyllic, full of natural beauty and goodness of heart. I asked him about this and he admitted that during the time he was writing the stories, he had been in a certain emotional state which he could not explain. I asked him if such shepherd's pieces could cut to the heart of reality. He said he had not thought about it, but had simply written; and added, more to himself than to me: these stories are not idylls, but dreams.
