You need to understand numbers and how they are manipulated, you need to understand how a purely theoretic formula can have application with real effects. Like being able to plan out your work out, manipulate your diet via calories, how scales in music theory work, arithmetic isn't abstract, it's absolutely in the world. It's pretty crazy when you think about it
