So Ghazali, the pillar of orthodox Islam was eventually fell disillusioned by the dogmatic nature of "kalam" or orthodox islam that he felt his faith was wavering, it wasn't until he had a renewed contact with Sufi mysticism he was able to "keep faith" and resolve his crisis of faith.

So the most influential scholar and respected Muslim scholar/philosopher/jurist in history had his faith in Islam saved by Sufism.
