Let's talk about Thomas Pynchon.

>> No.9798004

Who is he?

>> No.9798009

no

>> No.9798085

Well informed.

I have V, GR, Vineland, and Mason & Dixon on my shelf. What do I read

>> No.9798202

>>9798180
Have you read any? Start with V obviously

>> No.9798210

Against the Gay

>> No.9798380

If those are what you have, start with V. Otherwise, I'd suggest Inherent Vice.

Father of Dave Eggers

>> No.9798881

I've only recently gotten into Pynchon, having put him off for years, and I'm really enjoying it. My only complaint would be his Excessive Nominalisation though.

Can't make an omelette without breaking a few Eggers.

>> No.9798888

Does anyone here think he still has it in him to write another great book?

>> No.9798899

>>9798888
He's working on one right now.

pls be true ruggy bby

The Crying Of Lot 49 is the best one to begin with. V. maybe, if you don't Lot49 but I didn't like V. that much.

>> No.9799290

I have Bleeding Edge but I never hear anyone discuss is... what gives?

>> No.9799459

>>9799290
It's good, but I think there's a kind of disdain for old men writing about young people things and doing it better than the young people could ever hope to. I don't think it will be really appreciated for another decade or two at least.

read Wallace instead. He's far superior

why anyone reads proto-wallacian authors now that we have Wallace is beyond my reasoning capabilities (which are considerable)

>> No.9799841

>>9799518
Wallace is overrated. His ideas were good sometimes but his writing was often not. Infinite Jest is like a fat man sprinting. He doesn't do a good job at gaining any distance fast.

100% this.
