Im a Christian, I don't personally care if it's right or wrong. Christianity is for me practicing a desire to interact with the spiritual, and none of the inconsistencies are enough to make me disbelieve.
Judaism is caught up in mythic history more, and Islam is even more obvious fan fiction than Christianity is (reading the early accounts of Muhammad's life is pretty revealing.)
The other religions left are Hinduism, which is some real meme shit, Buddhism, which is also meme shit, or some Far East philosophy like Taoism or Lau Tsu.
Christianity is the best expression of the metaphysical desire in my opinion

>Is it uncommon for people to find the work of an artist enjoyable and then go out to seek more of it?
No. Didn't say it was.

>You might as well ask someone who is acquainted with an author's work for advice on which order he/she would imagine to be the most enjoyable.
This is the part I don't agree with. Why would the same order be best for everyone? Just read in whichever order you want to. This is just a case of people feeling the need to be told what to do. You aren't in school, you can be as discriminating as you want and read whichever books you want in the order you desire-

>>9776891
This chart, for example, is stupid. If on a winter's night... is widely considered Calvino's best book, so why not just read it first and then branch out if you find that you enjoy him? That way you don't waste your time reading several lesser works by an author you don't really care for. For example, I read If on a winter's night... (which I enjoyed) and Invisible Cities (which I thought was just okay) and decided that Calvino is a good author while not feeling particularly compelled to continue with him, deciding my time would be better spent exploring other authors.

>How negative as person are you
My post really wasn't that negative. I think maybe you perceived some extreme hatred in my tone that really isn't there. More just confusion.

>why haven't you necked yourself yet?
Not sure, I think about it every day. :^)

I'd argue Norweigan Wood should be replaced with Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, and the poetry of Murasaki Shikibu and Onono Komachi should still be included for the classical era. I've read it. It has a lot to offer about his own mental health and it's often delivered through the personification of his conscience (the bad side, mostly).

There is a lot of sex, to the point where I felt it was gratuitous, but the intense amount of it as well as some of the more unusual events in the book provide a blurring effect which makes it difficult to distinguish the facts and autobiographical elements from the urban legends and fiction. It's a pretty fascinating book but it's nowhere near as brilliant as Miles Davis' autobiography.

i think that there are definitely apologists who try to intellectualize and explain their position and some of them do it pretty well but the real truth is that religion as a whole, and i think christianity is pretty hard on this, is self-aware enough to know it's baloney. like there aren't that many people who are that fucking stupid. i know there's this sort of trend in nerd communities that it's like 'haha everyone's an idiot but me they're exactly that dumb' but the truth is that the truth just plain does not matter to most people. it's comforting, it gives community, it makes life feel more interesting and purposeful. is it lazy? fuck yes. is it cowardly? yeah pretty much. but it works for them, and that's really all they give a shit about.

Can someone redpill me on The Postman Always Rings Twice ?

It isn't really discussed on /lit/ and I often see it in bookshops but I thought it was an airport novel.
