Hows that novel/short story of yours going, /lit/?

Short story is 90% finished as of now, maybe 2-3 more pages max. feelsgoodman.jpg

I am never excited about finishing a story, because I immediately start on another. It doesn't mean I get a break.

Story one:

50%

Story two:

20%

Story three:

60%

Three is occupying my mind the most.

I have to revise two stories from my intro class and write two more stories and a few shorts for a collection in my intermediate fiction class. One of the stories I have to revise is very close to how I want it, the other needs a major facelift. I have one line of the other story, and concepts for more stories/shorts. I'm thinking of calling it Lights in the Sky or something similar, because they all have that motif.

Just started writing out the basic outline and characters for mine, should be pretty simple since there are only two major characters (the main character and the person he is "confessing" to).

But still, I suck at getting writing done so it'll take a good couple of months to finish even this short story.

Alright, you asked for it, you're getting it, don't say I didn't warn you.

The first story is a simple erotic short about a schoolteacher, the man who loves her, light bondage, and lactation, about 5,000 words at the moment.

The second story is set in historical France. It deals with an assassin from Eastern Europe, specifically, the Transylvanian area. We follow them as they infiltrate a city, gather information about their mark, observe their mark, and eventually go in for the kill. It's at 2,900 words.

The last story is fanfiction and deals with a multi-national joint task force deployed into a hostile zone. Half of the people who read it want me to continue, the other half want me to abandon my first serious foray into fanfiction.

/lit/, in particular, wants to see it, so when it's done I'll be dropping it here.

>CONT'D

It is my most ponderous short story at the moment, because of my laborious descriptions of the equipment said Task Force uses. I drew heavily on Tom Clancy for it - to the point where I spent a whole page or two describing the workings of a battle rifle. I also went through the motions of how it all worked.

Instead of:

>The Operator put a new clip in her gun, and fired back at the enemy

as most people would, I wrote

>Pulling a fresh mag from her utility belt, the Operator hit the release lever, letting the empty mag fall to the ground, She shoved the new magazine in, giving the charging handle a pull back, until the rifle responded with a sharp, metallic -ping-, then she brought the stock back up to her shoulder, lining the ironsights up with her eyes.

>Two tangoes were rushing towards her. In one swift movement, the Operator put the nearest hostile in her irons and squeezed the trigger, two quick, sharp pulls. The rifle kicked her shoulder, blue muzzle flash lighting up the corridor, the harsh crack of plasma fire hammering at her ears.

Not the name of the soldier in question, and it's an unrealistic scenario because no SOG Operator goes it alone, but you should get an idea of how I'm handling it.

One man who read an earlier version gave up on the first chapter, and said it was too long for him.

Then there's another story I haven't started work on yet, specially requested by a few il/lit/erates Luna Lovegood becomes a succubus and hilarity does not ensue.

The tripfriend Onionring is itching to see it, but I haven't even begun. I plan on starting work after I'm done with my story about the schoolteacher.

Not really literary... but even the worst eroge general sells.

Assasins creed rip, but not a terrible premise.
>The last story is fanfiction and deals with a multi-national joint task force deployed into a hostile zone
How is this fanfiction? Eh, I have a soft spot for millitaria so I can't really complain. Data-dumps work considering that your target audience is probably millitary buffs anyways.

Not bad, I guess the real deal is in how you execute them really

>Assasins creed rip,

It sounds like it, yeah.

But there are no roof-running escapades, no hidden blades, no nonsensical Templars Vs. Assassins backstory. Just straight up espionage and infiltration.

In fact, the assassin does not use a blade at all. I preferred to take a purist approach to that sort of thing.

Ive been going over the 5 million ideas that Ive accumulated over time and mostly been trying to write in the vain hope that eventually one of them will make sense.

The idea Im running with now is about this guy in a mental hospital that makes these really weird paintings that turn out to be paintings of other dimension. These is kind of useless until the other dimensions start to slowly "bleed though" into ours.

Yeah....

Another thing:

However un-lit it may be, I've been writing short erotic stories for a while. I've built up an entire collection of resources for it, and have made contact with various associations catering to Ero-lit readers and writers, such as http://www.erotica-readers.com/

I enjoyed a period of infamy on another board in 4chan when I used to post my sex stories there as soon as I churned them out.

I would do so in /lit/, but my stories have more sex than Objectivism in them, so the /lit/izens might just read Rand instead.

Man, fuck.

Fuck.

I was working on this one novel and then I just fucking lost all drive to do it. Then I tried another one and realized I suck at writing. Then I brainstormed another one, and realized my ideas are getting worse and worse.

Like, I used to have these really great ideas for sprawling postmodern epics, and my prose was really good, I mean I needed work, but shit, I liked what I wrote.

Now my ideas are just getting worse and more generic and cliche and meaningless and my prose is bland and, well, prosaic. Not to mention clumsy and high school- sounding.

Fuck me.

My only real dream since I was a kid was to be a writer, to be a great novelist. But now I feel like my best bet is to just give up, I feel like I'm not meant to be a writer. I've only ever published one story and that was in high school and since then I haven't even FINISHED anything.

Fuck.
