This is your chance to recommend absolutely anything to the masses on /lit/. Doesn't have to be one book, can be as many or as few as you wish.

I'll start.

If you're looking for a summer read that offers a great story without unnecessary complications, as in an 'easy read', then I highly recommend The Beach (as per picture). You've probably all seen the movie, but even if you have, it's not a problem. I read it after watching the movie, and still found it a worthwhile read.

I also recommended it, as I thought I'd bring something a bit different to the table, as it's quite a habit of the users of /lit/ to talk about the same books/stories.

No one recommends books of poetry...individual poems yes...books no.

I do recommend Li-Young Lee's Rose. Okay so it has its sentimental moments but there's some really good poems in this book. I particularly enjoyed the second section of the book where the section is comprised of one really long poem.

I admire the technique and the meaning I get from it so yeah.

I love literature that tries to deal seriously with the logic and grammar of dreams. My favorite of these is "The Unconsoled," by Kazuo Ishiguro. But lots of people have read that.

More recent, and almost as good, is "The Way Through Doors,"by Jesse Ball, and you guys should check that shit out.

IF YOU ARE ENJOYING "THE WAY THROUGH DOORS", I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU READ PAUL AUSTER'S "MAN IN THE DARK".

OR AT LEAST CHECK UP ON IT.

NO PROBLEMS MATE. IT WAS ONCE RECOMMENDED TO ME A FAIR WHILE BACK BY ANOTHER ANON ON /LIT/.

I DON'T WANT TO SAY TOO MUCH, AS I WOULDN'T WANT TO SPOIL ANYTHING, BUT SINCE YOU SAID YOU ENJOYED THE WHOLE 'DREAM' SETTING, THIS IS KIND OF UP YOUR ALLEY.

HONESTLY, I DO NOT GET IT. HERE IS A THREAD WHERE WE CAN ALL EXCHANGE IDEAS FOR READINGS, AND HAVE SMALL DISCUSSIONS ON EACH SUGGESTIONS, AND YET WE GET MINIMAL RESPONSES...

If you want to read a funny fantasy novel that is nothing at all like the works of Terry Pratchett, read Anansi Boys.

No, really, it's hilarious, and fantasy, and nothing at all like Terry Pratchett.

I'M YET TO READ ANYTHING ABOUT PRATCHETT, BUT MOST OF HIS WORKS ARE PRETTY SHORT, RIGHT?

The Witches of Eileanan by Kate Forsyth is the best series of books I've ever read. It is a bit cliched in that it's a standard sword and sorcery fantasy but it's written very well and the characters are likable and realistic and the plot has many TWEESTS. The main series spans 6 books and there is another set of 3 that focuses on some new characters years later while not forgetting the old ones.

FUCK IT, I'LL JUST READ IT NOW SINCE IT'S SO SHORT. WILL POST LATER TODAY WITH MY THOUGHTS ON IT.

I appreciate the humor of Neil Gaiman being "nothing like Terry Pratchett" with Good Omens (Authors: Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman) on my shelf.

On that note, I recommend both authors highly. Pratchett is (mostly) light-hearted satire of common tropes.
Gaiman is... fantastic? I that he writes my epitome of fantasy in general. (Stardust and American Gods being prime examples.)

Also, if you like a progressive storyline, Feist is currently writing about something like the 6-8th generation or so down from his starting characters.
