I'm inspired by life and the world around me. Flowers, faces of women, the sky. I sometimes take walks (constitutionals) and take in the nature of things around me. I jot down notes and observations in my phone. People prob think i'm texting someone lol. No. Life is a dance, and I'm dancing to the music. Ahh. Ahh. The twitter of the birds in the trees, the faces I read like a book. My social media is life itself. Yes, as joyce ended his great masterpiece. Yes I say to life, my first love. Inhale deeply the fragrance of the smell of sweet odors. O! Ah, well, I digress.

This is disgustingly kitsch. You may as well be inspired by a greeting card.

For those who don't know what kitsch is, it's essentially art derived from a decision to depict a sentiment. Not a desire to express a sentiment.

Here the decision to depict a sentiment led to the choice of conventionally sad subject matter, but of the least offensive kind, since the only point is to say "sad, grief" without any baggage whatsoever.

This is what "sad, grief" looks like when it's not swaddled in middle class, house-wifely cotton. The artist dwelt on a subject for a while, had a real feeling for it, then decided to paint it, or maybe started painting and later realised the historical incident what he was painting reminded him of. It's not necessarily a great painting, but it is not kitsch.

I'm not sure your artist has ever seen a sheep in person.

Non-kitsch art doesn't need to be funny.

Most modern art is comedy that doesn't get any laughs, but which still lets the artist act like a wiseguy. Which explains why Jews are so happy with the current situation.

One of the better of all time, imo. The look of utter destruction in the living parties eyes is phenomenal, not to mention the way he painted the deceased's eyes you can feel the lifelessness. Difficult things captured here very well and their attention to detail is amazing.

Middle class and working class bleed together culturally. Upper middle class often mixes as well when it rises up from middle class. The bastions of true "upper crust" culture and dying fast as everything is absorbed into the popular monoculture.

Here's just one thing I have to say: art is shallow to you because you look at it in a shallow way. I would warmly recommend you to read something like Gombrich's Story of Art before you casually trivialize several thousand years of artists' work.
(And since when is the purpose of all art to provoke your thinking? Go read philosophy instead if that's what you need.)

No, working class people are more into wolf t-shirts and prints of movie posters. Cheese is the norm at that level, but it tends to be "hard" cheese, gushy and violent.

Pic related is a piece of working class hard cheese. Is it kitsch? The emotions are so goofy and unrestrained that it's actually hard to tell. It's probably too absent-mindedly painted and absent-mindedly displayed to have anything as complex as insincerity come into the mix. The painter and its buyers think it is cool.

The crying sheep painting contains the maximum amount of sadness and the minimum amount of reality. The hard cheese is carefully softened and de-odorised: no, we can't have anything so crude and blue collar as actual humans suffering, we need to be more clean and less obvious. "I graduated high school, I know all about them metaphers."
This is why it is middle class: it is restraining itself from its own tastelessness and cheesy instincts, but not doing a very good job.

As industrial jobs decline and white collar jobs increase, suppression of instincts and hard cheese is becoming more common. You might be right, but only because the lower end of white collar is becoming the new working class.

I don't know I have a hard time reading military sf because at the back of my mind is the niggling thought that if we had that kind of technology, war would probably be nothing like the war we have now. In 1900 ships battered each other with guns. By 2000 cannon-armed ships were completely obsolete and had been replaced by missile frigates and carriers. Who knows what naval vessels will look like in 2100, or if they'll be even in use at all.

Maybe in 2500 wars will be fought by psychically converting the enemy populace with some sort of mind ray. Whatever happens it seems pretty unlikely that infantry will be trotting around with small arms like in Starship Troopers or the Forever War.

This board consists of
1) retards who use terms modern and contemporary interchangeably
2) have an attitude towards analysing visual art not unlike the attitude r/books has towards analysing literature
3) people who don't read to begin with

id also say some /ic/ vermin, but even tho this thread is swarmed with gaudy garbage minimum of it is glorified capeshit so i dunno
