What does /lit/ think of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? Personally, I think it's overrated

Humor has a shelf life. I'm sure it was very funny when it was written.

It's perfectly rated.
Good book for teens and the immature 20somethigns, as it pushes one to think a little more while amusing.

This. It's very much a product of its time and place. Unless you grew up in the English Home Counties in the 1980s (and ideally, your father was a stockbroker), it's probably not for you

I would rate the first 3 books, respectively: 8/10, 7/10 and 5/10. The rest is shit.

Beautiful book, more so given its publication date of 1979. Funny and witty to boot.

You didn't want to know the answer?

I had it down the whole time

That's not why I'm triggered at all.

If you remember, the answer 42 didn't matter so much as the real question did, for which Earth was constructed to compute.

I like how the book is so relevant today, with quantum computers on the horizon, and Trump (Zaphod) being president of the Universe.

Earth was constructed to make sense of the original answer "42"

And so we have it.

I read the first one and found it really funny, but as I got near the end I started losing interest because of how constant and heavy-handed the humor is. So I liked it but there's no way I'll be able to read the three sequels unless I take long breaks between each one. Did anyone else feel like this?

if that's true then Musk is a basic bitch
