I loved Alchemist and to me closest in spirit (not story, setting, writting style...) is this little thing:

You many want to read Là-Bas first (translation should also be somewhere on that webpage), to really get into characters mindstate. Together they form quite disturbing and at same time beautifull journey. I warn you that theme is quite catholic (all sides) and it may fill your music playlist with gregorian chant.
