The album that that anon posted: Hex or printing the infernal method was inspired by blood meridian. Every song is named after a sentence in the book, and Earth's new music inspired in Ennio Morricone's compositions for western were reimagined with the atmosphere of Blood Meridian. By the way, a friend of mine met Bret Nelson after a concert and apparently he is really into Stanislaw Lem.

(Translated Excerpt)
Come to me, my Angel,
come soaring down… and have a seat… and faint…
I'll see which gender You have.
Will I penetrate a cavity
Or drink a tallow from a fully ripe fruit…
If blood on your lips blazes up
like a sacrificial fire…
…you'll turn white—an Angel…
…I'll down a chalice of her—and become a…
—and you'll faint and return to your fairy tale
a feathered beast
to cherish your wings…

I'll turn into a color of white flesh—
—a grave-man—
—a bone in the beak—
leaving the joy of birds.

Ok, being serious here and no shitposting: there's no difference between the two, essentially. Only after a certain dose of mystery or obfuscation can people assume there is depth. Better yet, if there is a impression of concealment or displacement, people will immediately assume there's a hidden truth, even where there is none.

Now that I think about it, what makes music perhaps not as great at being art as the written word is precisely because it is deep, even the most complex classical piece has something that is always, in order to properly function as art, attached to what the listener and composer feel, and feelings are ephemeral and individual (i.e. self-destroying), with no foothold on truth.

Repetitive brainlet excreting tautologies. What about style and, again, clarity? For you, does all style really come down to mystery, obfuscation, concealment, and displacement? I mean, someone like e.g. Zizek obscures the fuck out of his meaning with jargon, so I wouldn't call him a good writer stylistically speaking. He also overuses certain rhetorical styles in English (e.g. "Is X not the Y par excellence"). Tolstoy is an example of someone who writes deeply, obviously, interestingly, and at length.

No, 'depth' is. Truth reveals itself, always.

I think we talking about two different kinds of 'deep' here, I'm referring to that type of 'hidden truth' that is perceived in some works of art but it's never explicit.

So depth is lack of clarity? Wew lad, I thought I was talking to someone who had a modicum of aesthetic understanding. Christ, I was even giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming you meant that a "certain dose" of style would act in the fashion of a distorting lens and diminish the appearance of the main point, but no, you literally meant "depth is obfuscation."

I'm not talking about aesthetics but metaphysics. The 'point' has no depth is only the surface and what appears in the surface. There is no 'inner' truth you get to that is apart from this phenomenal surface. Plato was wrong.

So, we were talking about whether depth is the same thing as quality, you claimed that all depth is "concealing," now you're basically saying that all depth is artificial as well as muddling. If "truth" is always on the surface, wouldn't you want it to be apparent immediately, rather than being filtered through the supposed muddiness of "depth"? And if this is the case, quality is, in fact, the *lack* of depth. That is, if "truth" is something to be striven for. This is all according to your train of logic.

>If "truth" is always on the surface, wouldn't you want it to be apparent immediately, rather than being filtered through the supposed muddiness of "depth"?

Yes, but not in an empirical sense (because it doesn't take subjective action in consideration in every rational enterprise and therefore is forever running after its own tail), but rather in a dialectical way where every property or category a thing has is developed using the written word, preferably.

>> No.9429199

am I correct in assuming that you mean to say that the "point" of music is shallow - that the point is nothing but the surface of the music; --that it lacks depth, so it makes for poor art?

So you admit you've contradicted yourself. I accept your concession. I am glad we agree that music is only "shitty" because you prefer "the written word" (because it apparently lends itself more to "dialectics," which is flatly untrue, you autist). FYI, Bach's counterpoint is nothing but a musical expression of dialectics
