What is the most masculine book you have read?

Iliad.

I don't read that much, probably Heart of Darkness, but even that is very emotional and sentimental at times. I reckon it would be extremely difficult to write a manly book that's good.

>HARRISON

>All I have to say about that macho thing goes back to the idea that my characters aren’t from the urban dream-coasts. A man is not a foreman on a dam project because he wants to be macho. That’s his job, a job he’s evolved into. A man isn’t a pilot for that reason either—he’s fascinated by airplanes. A farmer wants to farm. But you know what it’s like here and up in the Upper Peninsula. This is where I grew up. How is it macho that I like to hunt and fish? I’ve been doing it since I was four.

>> No.9418677

>>9418642
No, Achilles functions as the hero. Hector is only the 'antagonist' in Homer's telling of the Trojan War. He's a plot device at worst and an 'anti-villian' at best.

Who is the Iliad about? Achilles. That is enough to make him the hero.
There are examples of two-sided stories where there are in-fact two heroes, who are eachother's antagonist. The Iliad is not an example of this.

what does being insecure mean exactly? That you aren't happy with yourself? But what if being macho makes you happy and it's only when people tell you that you're being insecure that you don't feel happy anymore?

Insecure is just a dumb, stupid label that was invented to make people feel bad about themselves for being stereotypical" which is another stupid word because there is nothing wrong with being stereotypical as long as you do it well.

>> No.9421899

>>9421880
>That you aren't happy with yourself?
Insecurity != happiness. Insecurity is more closely associated with unease and uncertainty. Willing naivety is a good example of happiness + insecurity operating together.

Everything is a stupid dumb label, that's how language works friend. Without these labels you would be unable to convey what is inside your head.

Your definition just makes it sound like an easily applied label that can be slapped onto anything, used to mock/defame it and then be easily defended to make them only look worse because if people say they aren't insecure, that makes them look more insecure.

Like if you label someone self-righteous, there's no way to defend themselves because any defense will only feed into that. Insecurity seems like the same thing. Plus, I don't think there's anything inherent about willing naivity and uneasiness. In some cases, being willing naive is probably if anything, a wise decision because you legitimately won't like the answer and can't effect it in any way.

Close to completely wrong, but you've stopped short of action. A man can admit fear, but he can't turn from it and remain a man. Masculinity would be lost. Try again.
