I love that Cover style for those Penguin Modern Classics. They have it also for Great Gatsby and Clockwork orange. Love it. Mostly because I am a huge fan of Centuary Gothic.

J.D. Salinger had in all of his book contracts that his covers would be as simple as possible. He preferred simple text, but insisted that if a picture was to be used, that it should not depict any characters. What you are observing has nothing to do with French-language or English-language books. It's just that Salinger had good taste and cared about the way his books were presented.

Alors ok certaines couvertures sont mieux aux us mais je trouve que desfois c'est trop, on dirait des couv surchargés un peu comme les livres de pierre belmard.... et la tranche j'en parle pas, à croire que les lecteurs regardent leur bibliothèque à 10mètres de distance...

je prefere largement certaines couvertures françaises... meme si j'avoue que le peliculage mat sur les couv us donne un bon rendu, certainement parceque pas courant chez nous.
