So I don't know about you, /lit/ but my main problem with writing seems to be a complete and utter lack of imagination. Where am I going with this?

ITT: We post the random first paragraph or so of a "potential" story or book, and then help each other decide where to go with the story.

The room was alive - animated by the power of a simple song. Light bounced around with the melody, while the fireplace held a dancer of its own - an orange dress with a face like flames. The headphones blared in time with the slashes of the violin as the piece drew nearer to its crescendo. The flames danced faster and faster, sparks flew out onto the brick mantel, and all the while the violin grew louder and louder.
He felt a chill shoot up through his spine, and his head tilted back against the plush cushions of the lounge chair. His eyes were shut tight, but he didn’t notice. The last few notes of the song slipped carelessly through his mind, and he sat and waited for himself to recover.

The cold passed reluctantly from the earth, and the retiring fogs revealed an army stretched out on the hills, resting. As the landscape changed from brown to green, the army awakened, and began to tremble with eagerness at the noise of rumors. It cast its eyes upon the roads, which were growing from long troughs of liquid mud to proper thoroughfares. A river, amber-tinted in the shadow of its banks, purled at the army's feet; and at night, when the stream had become of a sorrowful blackness, one could see across it the red, eyelike gleam of hostile camp-fires set in the low brows of distant hills.

on a chilly morning in april, a man could be seen walking to the shops at approximately seven am. at first glance he appeared as nothing more than an ordinary man, nothing shifty, nothing special. dressed in a moderate pair of pants and an average button up shirt, all was normal on this cold april morning. however the man wasn't really ordinary, in fact he was far from ordinary. if ordinary described you and me then ordinary would definitely not describe this man. this man was not even extraordinary for that would merely make him extra-ordinary. and when its all said and done, this man was not ordinary.

Jesus Fucking Christ, why I haven't I read your work before? Why aren't you in the Zine? This is fantastic fucking imagery. You lope from style to style with effortless syntactical play. My only complaint is with >>940169. It's not nearly as rich or animate as your other stuff; there's no movement whatsoever in the prose, and it reads like you were just chewing on abstractions. Warm life pulsed from the wound in his chest. Though his hand reached and clenched at it desperately, no amount of clutching would be enough to stop its flow. With every heart beat, he came closer to his assured death. The already darkened skies only deepened into absolute abyss until there was nothing in his view.
There, lifeless, the youth lay in a pool of his ever-expanding blood. Mere breaths away from oblivion and all he could feel was frustration; that he would die in such a meaningless way without even knowing what it was that caused it.

>She looked out of the window to the murk and mud beyond. Rain poured in torrents, as it had for days now. However, it had let up briefly for the moment, though only slightly, slowing to a dreary little drizzle with curtains of strong rain blown on gusts. Outside of Addie’s little neighborhood of waste and forgotten dreams, within the city, it was a night when few souls could be found out of doors, and those that were tended to cover with umbrellas and coats, and scurried from place to place with the minimum of time and the maximum of fuss. Right then, right there, the rain would be pounding on opalescent puddles of city grime and the near-acid drippings of civilization. Here, though, such modern amenities as asphalt and the cadmium streetlights cutting holes in the dark had not reached, and the shower waved in sheets up and down brown cobbles, dim, flickering spheres of oily streetlamps threatening to flicker out and leave the world to the ink of storm and night. As they raced in broad stripes of tiny splashes, each band chasing the next, each sheet of droplets in the storm sounded like the scuttling of thousands of mice.

I remember birth clearly, before is dark and static. How long I spiralled in the wonder of infancy I couldn't say. Centuries? Millennia? In all probability it was longer. I saw and felt the energy from other stars and absorbed their light persistently into consciousness. Full formed and awake from birth, existence proved a simple business. My body nourished itself, stressed in the pull and love of the cosmos. Forty seven stars shape me and really I am nothing, or if not nothing then perhaps a web, or a net, created to catch and filter.

Grammar and spelling. I'd give specific examples, but it would look like this:
>I remember birth clearly, before is dark and static. How long I spiralled in the wonder of infancy I couldn't say. Centuries? Millennia? In all probability it was longer. I saw and felt the energy from other stars and absorbed their light persistently into consciousness. Full formed and awake from birth, existence proved a simple business. My body nourished itself, stressed in the pull and love of the cosmos. Forty seven stars shape me and really I am nothing, or if not nothing then perhaps a web, or a net, created to catch and filter.

Only spelling mistake, actually, is spiraled--spiralled. But some false word tenses and impenetrable grammar.

The Penis Was - The rebellion of the clitoris

So there was this gigantic pile of penises, flavored with the tasteful flavor of condoms, a delicious combination, and orgasm of black people. "The Niggers of Paragon" they call them. A cult of bandits that protect the giant tower of Cocky Cock with their big black wood.

But not everything was good in this land of niggers and penises. There where a threat that was hiding into the shadows of the cock that brings light to the land, and floats in the sky like a sun. They where called "The Pussy of Miracles", an army of evil clitoris soldiers that where a potential danger to the land of cocks. The fleet of vaginas plied into the skyes of semen, like fishes into the seas of black sperm, the niggers.

There was only one hope: THE DILDOS of illumination.

To be continued...

on a chilly morning in april, a man could be seen walking to the shops at approximately seven am. at first glance he appeared as nothing more than an ordinary man, nothing shifty, nothing special. dressed in a moderate pair of pants and an average button up shirt, all was normal on this cold april morning. however the man wasn't really ordinary, in fact he was far from ordinary. if ordinary described you and me then ordinary would definitely not describe this man. this man was not even extraordinary for that would merely make him extra-ordinary. and when its all said and done, this man was not ordinary.

this mans name was alan brown. by all appearances, alan brown led a comfortable life with little altercation. however as we are often told, appearances are misleading. as mr brown crossed the road, he realised that it was rather quiet. being a monday morning, one expects the usual hustle and bustle associated with monday mornings, though this morning was different. mr brown began to realise that there was no traffic, and hardly any noise at all. being half asleep, he shrugged it off.

"must be a public holiday i missed" he thought to himself.

how very wrong he was.
