Good writer or a hack?
I've read and enjoyed both on the road and dharma bums, but I can understand the criticism.

Why don't you make your own mind up, then?

I said I liked him, but I also haven't read all that much. Just curious to hear other, more well read, people's opinions of him.

I think most people would say he's an influential/significant figure in the development of post-war American culture and literature but doesn't stand all that well on his own.

He's good, but if you could only take one book to an island, it probably shouldn't be one of his. Some would say his work is more of a zeitgeist thing rather than "great" work.

>> No.9269309

he's a irredeemable hack degenerate

>> No.9269318

he was a talented writer but most here don't realize this because they've only read the edited on the road
