Where do you get your recommendations, /lit/? How do you keep up to date with new releases and such?

>> No.918515

Literature forums frequented by like-minded individuals. They've usually had those who've happily jumped onto new releases etc.

New York Review of Books

I don't, really. There's about a mile long stack of classic books that I want to read before jumping on anything contemporary. Except I'm reading Infinite Jest right now, which I believe I had suggested to me from /lit/, and it is quite good.

You're a like-minded individual then? I note that these are SF & F boards, hence the like-minded part. I mostly lurk around Westeros and SFFWorld.

There is this literature magazine in my town.
I get my information from there.

is Westeros actually a good board? I never really checked it out because I figured it was just Ice and Fire stuff and, I mean, it's a fine series but it's not really my thing you know?

I posted on Wotmania back in the day, but I like WoT a lot more than Ice and Fire.

google your favorite author and find out who his/her favorite authors are; repeat the process if necessary

>> No.918625

For sci-fi reviews I pretty much just go to SFsite. It's not great but as far as I can determine it's the best new reviews website out there for SF&F.

Somebody really needs to make a website that has actual critical reviews of interesting new SF&F. With, like, an actual critical viewpoint and shit.

Lurk your local independent bookstore. Ask for recommendations. Make friends. Be a person.

I think it is. I don't actually frequent the ASoIaF-pertinent boards at all; I've no inclination to delve so deep into any series. I just visit the Literature (i.e. other authors) and Entertainment sections (and World Cup woo hoo)
