I hate how their is no benign or redeeming factor to those in Slytherin house. In the 7th, book, they flee from the big battle like bitches while the other three fight to the death.

There are definitely bad folks in other houses in Hogwarts, like Wormtail, MacLaggan, Vain and Lockheart. So why aren't there any good guys in Slytherin besides Snape?

Malfoy was a good guy because he was mean to that faggot Potter.

Most of the other houses were filled with one dimensional cardboard cut-outs. What the fuck is a hufflepuff for instance? also, I wish ravenclaw had been the protagonists, but I am a /lit/ after all.

I never got this objection, tbh

The Eagles fly to Mount Doom only after everything blows the fuck up, I always assumed that Sauron or the Nazgul or somebody would have seen them and killed their shit, up until the shit hit the fan

>> No.903809

I don't know, in the first book they made pretty clear that the only difference between Gryffindor and Slytherin was choice. Like Hary could've easily been in either house, but he chose Gryffindor.

it all comes down to snape and slughorn, really

slughorn's more nootch to the snootch but snape was actually the one planned to kill voldemort. probably because he was the most powerful one of the bunch

They are creatures of divinity and can't bear the crushing dark power of the ring.

Plus they would have gotten mauled by a typhoon of arrows the second they flew over the black gates.

>> No.903868

>>903778
Like anon said, JKR was biased. Which is why for my own entertainment I sketch out fan fic which sets the record straight from the other three houses point of view.

There's no need to think about Slytherin in negative terms just because the main character from that house is totally engaged with the 'bad guys' due to family influence.

For what it is worth the Sorting Hat is a king troll since he makes people believe that he is making considered decisions whereas he's really just random.

Hermione and Ron in Gryfinndor? Please.

>> No.903875

>>903813
Sauron didn't even have guards or fortifications at the entrance to Mount Doom. I'm not sure if he was capable of planning for eagles.

>> No.903894

The most people in Slytherin are egoist and purebloods, so why should they fight? They are not in danger since they are pure blooded and so their egoism tells them not to fight. Nothing is wrong with not fighting when you are not in danger.

Let's stick to the truth, most of us wouldn't fight either, /lit/ is full of Ravenclaws which are desribed to go away in big numbers too. Only Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs fighted really in big numbers.

Remember in Chamber of Secrets where he tried to obliviate Harry and Ron's memories so HE could claim credit for rescuing Ginny and closing the Chamber? Yeah.

But after it backfired he becomes pretty harmless. He was never really BAD, per se, just stupid.

He may have failed with Harry and Ron, but he did obliviate the memories of other people; he wrote books about "his" adventures in defeating dark magic, which were actually just him finding people, interviewing them and erasing their memories. That's how he got the post of DADA teacher in the first place- people thought he had actually done these things himself.

But he isn't LOLVOLDY evil, if that's what your definition of evil in Harry Potter is.

Moral ambiguity would only confuse little children.

>> No.904004

I sort of think that by book 7, Rowling wasn't even trying.

What's always bothered me is the insane amount of bias that sits around the houses. Where you're sorted defines the way people see you for the rest of your life.

If you get sorted Slytherin, you're pretty much viewed as a Nazi your entire life and have to live with scorn and stereotypes being propagated about you.
If you're a Hufflepuff, have fun spending your entire life trying to gain success against people who assume you're callow and easy to take advantage of.
If you're Ravenclaw, people will pretty much treat you like a walking encyclopedia and only really acknowledge or care about you if you can answer stupid questions and make things easy for idiots.
If you're Gryffindor, fuck you. You get all the attention and praise by default and will never have to struggle for anything in your life because the goddamn school and ministry favour you. Even if you're a shitty Gryffindor people will still love you because you're still *good at heart*.

About the eagles in LotR. Obviously the biggest reason they couldn't have just flown in to Mt Doom is because Orcs actually like watch the borders of Mordor and would either shoot hat shit down or have a Nazgul tear it to pieces. However, I'm pretty sure in Fellowship (the book) theres a bit where Frodo specifically brings up having the eagles fly it to Mt Doom to Gandalf and Gandalf said the Eagles have decided the war doesn't concern them since its about saving man and have just said fuck it and won't help. Thats why its such a big deal when the Eagles show up, because they were playing Switzerland not but five minutes ago.

Yeah, okay Tolkien.

>Orcs actually like watch the borders of Mordor and would either shoot hat shit down or have a Nazgul tear it to pieces.

The Nazgul didn't have their flying mounts in the first book and Mordor is surrounding by MOUNTAINS. The Eagles could just fly over - they don't have to pass through the Black Gate.

>> No.905619

The Nazgul did have the Fellbeasts in the first book they just didn't want to use them to alert the enemy they did have them.

Sauron had outposts and fortifications all around his realm watching for people trying to sneak in.

Sauron could would have detected the eagle with his all seeing eye and blasted them out of the sky.

READ THE BOOK.

Even if they couldn't get them all the way to Mordor, they could have brought them a long fucking way without losing anyone or running into Golem.
