Is the word "we" a collective pronoun?

If not, then what is it?

Thanks /lit/

No, it's a verb meaning to urinate

>> No.903280

y'all is.
As someone who learned English as a second language, it boggles my mind that the English plural "you" is so hated by most of the populous.

For example: My dog is not housebroken, so it likes to we on the floor

That's just a product of economization. It's too much work to say "you all"

Indeed but most other languages do have a plural "you".
Ex: Sie in German.

You was originally just the plural. Thou used to be the singular. Now you is the singular for some people and y'all is the plural.

Except "ye" was the plural.

Ye was nominative (subject), You was accusative (object).

>> No.904837

In Ireland, 'ye' is a commonly used word. Because in Irish we had a 'you plural'. We still need one sometimes.

Though, we don't always use it. It's kinda informal slang still.

Aye okay.

>> No.904847

"You guys" seems to be the American standard colloquial expression. What a terrible idiom. Whenever I hear someone say it I almost always imagine them saying something stupid like, "you guys! Guys? Wait for me!" if you understand what I'm getting at.

"Guys" is also gender neutral.

I heard a man say "all y'all", once. I guess he really needed to stress the completion of his address.
