What you're scared of is the ways in which you could improve. You overestimate your( current )self, that's why you feel bad, because you believe you should magically be better than you are; you're ignorant of your own capabilities. This isn't about your ego though; it's about making art, so all this self-pitying is pointless. Be thankful you can see your failings unlike writers who follow some unconscious fancy instead.

By realizing that not being satisfied with your own work is the mark of a real artist.

If you create something, and you think it's amazing, and you don't ever try to create something better, that's not being an artist — you're just an egomaniac that wants power over others, or monetary / social gain at best.

The only time it is acceptable to not want to create something better than what you've already done is when you're an old person and you just don't have the energy anymore, which for the artist is a fate worse than death.
