What is webfiction?

Webfiction is any original work of fiction that is published solely online and is free. It is not usually fanfiction, although there are a few exceptions.

Webfiction Starter Pack:

Cordyceps
http://archiveofourown.org/works/6178036/chapters/14154868
Someone wakes up in a mysterious facility with no memory of how they got there. This turns out to be the ideal state of affairs, and is swiftly ruined.

Floornight
http://archiveofourown.org/works/2372021/chapters/5238359
In the near future, science has discovered and investigated the reality of the soul, a top-secret facility on the ocean floor monitors the depths for creatures beyond human comprehension, and its eccentric inhabitants balance the familiar challenges of life, love and fulfillment with the surreal challenges of a continually shifting, mind-bending new reality.

Worm

Unsong
http://unsongbook.com/
In the late 1960s, the Apollo 8 rocket to the moon was launched. After a successful launch, the rocket proceeded into the upper atmosphere where it hit the crystal sphere surrounding the Earth and cracked a hole in the sky. As stranger things begin happening, it becomes apparent that the Judeo-Christian creation myth was true, and the divine is returning to the world. The story follows a professional Kabbalist, who works as an office drone for a company that researches the divine names of god, which when spoken have a specific effect on the universe, and copyrights them so they can sell them for profit

Fine Structure
https://qntm.org/structure
Every year, a random person on Earth is struck by lightning and gains superpowers. Each new superhuman is twice as powerful as the previous one. This has been going on for ten years. Side note: despite the description, this is pretty high concept sci-fi, so if you enjoy that give it a try.

The Northern Caves
http://archiveofourown.org/works/3659997/chapters/8088522
An online message board devoted to a cult fantasy author wrestles with his baffling final book. Parts of it are written in an interesting message-board/forum format.

The guy who wrote worm wrote another good story, Pact, and he's in the middle of writing a third, Twig. He has a really low internet profile for a guy who makes $2700/mo on Patreon for writing.

I love rationalist-adjacent webfiction but why is it your only examples of webfiction? Just say you wanna have a rationalfic thread if that's all you're familiar with

Japanese web novels are webfiction, for Christ's sake.

>>8863984
there's even as much of this as there is rationalfic, practically. here's an underrated gem:

I have my own website where I put a lot of my short stories. I just launched a podcast where I read them too.

https://westsidefairytales.com/westside-fairytales-podcast/

That's the link to the podcast part of the website. It's all free and I have maybe six listeners, so let me know what you think. I'd really appreciate it.

Are you planning to do a periodic podcast or are they just going to be up whenever you get around to them?

Anyone have tips for writing one of these? I'm doing one right now, but it suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks. I'm going through with it and publishing a chapter weekly because I want to actually finish a damn story for once, even if no one's reading it. I honestly don't get how people do it. Most of the stuff I write that's not total crap comes out when I edit the chapters. I'm gonna turn it into a book when i'm finished, so I just tell myself to keep writing and I'll fix stuff later. Is there any trick to consistently putting out good chapters?

Biweekly for about 10 episodes. The next one drops in about a week and a half. I've already written everything, I just record them when I have time and the biweekly schedule gives me more than enough time.
I'm actually fairly used to working under strict deadlines, so don't worry about getting into it and then me bailing three episodes in. If you've already checked it out, then thanks.

Well, here's my site too:

I write Japan-inspired stories, this is 4chan after all, but that doesn't mean I'm trying to be bad on purpose. Some books you can download for free, some cost a few bucks.

I've been writing silly crap ever since I was a kid, but only got serious about it around four years ago. Thanks for the compliment. I try to take a different approach every time, so each story is a bit of an experiment.

Just finished Worm today. Do Twig and Pact at least somewhat measure up?
also, when's the publisher/ebook/tvseries/cinematic universe?

Pact was a flop for me. I didn't like the main character.

I've heard Twig is excellent from a lot of people, but I couldn't get into it after reading the first several chapters.
