And they're all in the same universe, too, aren't they?

>> No.8720808

Well, books, and specially /tg/ related books, are not the mark of someone that is physically threatening, so yes, I will fight you.

I'm jealous, a lot of those books look well worn.
being able to completely absorb yourself into a universe is great but also being able to get into in depth conversations with other neckbeards when you're playing the game must be bliss.
I'd just feel like im wasting time i could be spending reading literature if i tried to read those.

>All those tomes
Does games workshop hire people to write all this? If so, doesn't that hang in your mind when reading it? Just $$$.

Anyway if this is yours anon then congratulations on finding something you like so much.

i kinda like the omnibusses and the pockets from the horus heresy series.

but for some fucking reason gw is releasing everything in hardcover nowadays with a big price bumb so i kinda stopped caring. i still need to read like 5 of these omnibuses anyway and 6-7 of the smaller ones.

fulgrim always comes to mind when someone mentions it. might not be the best but i liked the setting.

if i would go on actual best with a little less personal opinion i would probably go for mechanicum or vulkan lives.

>> No.8720889

>>8720877
its their though.

i dont have a lot of recent ones because fuck black library and their constant changing book sizes.

>> No.8720904

Fair. The non mass market paperback size can fuck right off.

I liked Fulgrim. I find McNeil's prose very workmanlike (outwith action which he genuinely excels at) like I think False Gods is pretty annoying because of how stupid he makes Horus so the plot can happen. But Fulgrim and how ott that legion is I felt really suited him.

I liked Vulkan Lives a lot but I read it after Unremembered Empire because I'm an idiot playing catch-up. Although I think writing from within a Primarch's perspective was a weird (and not hugely successful) choice. I think that, if you want a character to be larger than life impressive, you should always present them from the perspective of another character (e.g. Sherlock Holmes or Dracula).

My favourite is probably Prospero Burns just because it feels like Abnett didn't get the memo and tried super hard to make it amazing when he did not have to.

Also I'm jealous of your Eisenhorn Omnibus can't find those for normal prices no more. Currently reading Fear To Tread (amongst other things) am I in for a good time?

Should I go back and read Mechanicum or Angel Exterminatus?

Absolutely disgusting... who in their right mind screw just a pair of shelves so high up near the ceiling with available space at head level

>> No.8720933

>>8720923
well i would definitely read mechanicum.

angel exterminatus is just more backstory and corruption for the legions, wasnt that bad

i feel like the primarch's perspective kind of works for vulkan since he is the most human of all his brothers.

its weird how some black library books are actually hard to get. i really want the 4th omnibus of gotrek and felix but that shits like 300 bucks because they printed almost nothing.

That's not a bad point. I'll go back and check out Mechanicum. I'm actually excited for Demski-Bowden's next one (master of mankind or whatever it is called). Also mass market paperback with Aurelian in it is out next year.

I hope they keep as much Abnett in print as they can. I'm starting Malleus fairly soon. Really want to read Caiphus Cain though because the idea that someone wrote "Flashman in 40k" amuses me immensely.

>> No.8720951

>>8720946
Caiphus Cain is an amazing series.

i still need to actually check when and if their will be new horus heresy paperbacks in pocket format.

>> No.8721015

>>8720951
Have you read Flashman by George McDonald Fraser? It's basically the same central character but it's in the 19th century and everything other than the fictitious central character is brilliantly researched and incredibly historically accurate. There's a bunch 'em and they're amazing too.

Black Library are doing more pocket format ones but they're staggering the delay like a year or so after large format paperbacks i.e. Deathfire is just out in pocket form (if you liked Vulkan Lives)

It was a decent trilogy. Does a good job of painting chaos accurately, with conflicting recollections of past events, and different opinions on the legion and why chaos is in such a bad way. I own them in paperback but I have the ebooks, I'll link them when I get off work.
