I've heard of people getting shit for reading The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, because of the swastika on the cover.

It's not that they don't care, it's that they don't notice. It's possible that if they did notice they assumed it was course reading. I took a history of science course and a big chunk of the class was on eugenics and how terribly evil it was.

The thing is anon, that college students do not give half a shit about books and reading. You could leaf through "A Guide to School Shooting: Revised 3rd Edition" and nobody would care unless the cover was both salacious and visible.

Yes and No. Plato condeems poets as their passionate speech comes from the ambiguous and uncertaintity of the Muse. However, Plato does think that certain poems and other works of literature should be taught as a Mayeutic method in education, both to demonstrate error in poetic passion and also to insite moral behaviour in certain works (Aesops fables as an example, but also some traits of virtue in Homer's verse)
