Does /lit/ read with a headlamp at night?

>> No.8631212

No. I turn the light on because I don't live in a third world country and have electricity in my room.

>> No.8631336

No. I did when I was a kid though. I also had a little clip on lamp that I could clip onto the page/cover

In my youth I had a headlamp that switched between white and red light. After a while I found white very tiring--it was a glacial white and I felt it pierced through the page and made it look like an xray. So I switched to red. It was a deep red, like the light in those old time movies where the undercover journalist/private eye pulls out wet sheets of photographic paper on which images slowly fade into being, in their makeshift photo lab. I read with the whole room dunked in that hue like in a blood aquarium, until I forgot it was just a colour and there were others. It was a queer little year. I wonder what it did to my brain. I never had any trouble sleeping all that time, unlike these days. Maybe I should try it again.

But aren't ereaders superior to tablets for reading precisely because they need an external light source, and therefore tire your eyes less?

>>8632773
I have a red filter on my phone that automatically turns on during the night, and it really is more relaxing than the normal screen. I think that's the reason why you slept well.

>> No.8633095

>>8633082
No, they are superior because they have actual black and white dots, like physical ones that turn one way or the other to produce the picture.
When they have a light it is basically like having a lamp and a book.

>But aren't ereaders superior to tablets for reading precisely because they need an external light source, and therefore tire your eyes less?

>e-Reader technology has come a long way since 2006 and many of the latest devices pack a front-lit display. Unlike LCD screens that emit light from behind the screen into your eyes, this e-paper technology evenly distributes the light from the bezel onto the screen. This is easier on the eyes for long reading sessions and the Kobo Aura, Kindle Paperwhite, Nook Glow and many others use this technology.

As the other anon said, it's a static page of ink with a pleasant light, like having a lamp and a book.

I have a red light in my room that I use sometimes; you really do forget there are other colors.
