It's not very rapey most of the time, but when it is, it is exceedingly so.

Mind you, the first novel is slow, as it is much more of a mystery novel than a crime novel. It has your locked room mystery (replace room with island) and your huge rich-and-old-family with a ton of family history, and so forth. It's almost like Agatha Christie but with extra rape.

The second and third books are much more in the way of crime and political thrillers.
