I don't think I've ever read anything by a black author i liked. I'm not racist, I just don't identify with the black literature I've checked out... is it just me or are black authors, for the most part, completely caught up in being black?

ps- TONY MORRISON DOES NOT DESERVE HER NOBEL PRIZE

>> No.831382

it's all about slavery. too black, didn't read.

>> No.831385

....Wtfffff?
I'm not black, and I don't have racial guilt, but I still thought Beloved was amazing and completely deserved the award.

>> No.831388

I had to read a few books by Toni Morrison for a college lit course.. She writes from the perspective of an abused black child every fucking chance she gets.

>for the most part, completely caught up in being black?

I've only read a handful of books by black people, and they seem to always be about racial injustice.

Always.

So I don't read books by black peeps. Not because I'm racist, but because they like clubbing the shit out of dead horses.

>> No.831391

OP here: i read Song Of Solomon, Tar Baby, and The Bluest Eye... Is beloved really worth the read if i didn't like those three?

>> No.831399

I like Cult Fiction and I've never come across a black author in that genre

Only if you're really bored and you pirate the book. Don't support that kind of garbage with your hard earned jewgolds

>> No.831421

Will have to read Beloved for a class in 2-3 years. I ead parts of it, and am not looking forward to reading it in full.

>> No.831449

I can't stand black authors

>> No.831456

Chances are if it's not a white man of at least middle age writing, the book will be shit.

>> No.831467

Read Chinua Achebe - Things Fall Apart. It's about a macho man trying to retain his masculinity in a decadent society. A tragic hero if there ever was one.

OP here, I read part of that book and had to put it down to study for exams... i never got around to finishing it but i did like it. i guess it's only black American authors that i don't like.

Fuck this nigger shit.
I read that fucking book sophomore, junior, and my senior year. I don't know who the fuck approves this shit but this shit was slightly above average at best.

And at worst?

It's a good thing if a book is above average. It's a very good book for those who like character-driven fiction.

I might also recommend The Autobiography of Malcolm X by Alex Haley. It's a good read mostly and it's worth having read for the knowledge about Malcolm X and even just to say that you read it. Then again, the Malcolm X is most certainly "completely caught up in being black."

Yeah. "Autobiography" is a bit of a misnomer but it's based on Haley's interviews with Malcolm X before his death so it's not too misleading although I think I've read Malcolm's wife, Betty Shabazz, complained that the book was misrepresentative. I know Haley has also been criticized for inaccuracy with Roots too but Malcolm X is still a reading-list-tier book.
