Sagan
Galileo
Newton

I realize they're not considered philosophers but if not then philosophy is fucking stupid. My girlfriend is taking a course in philosophy, and last night we were looking at something by Spinoza and there was the most retarded reasoning I've ever read in my life. There were all these attributes, and Substances, and all this meaningless fucking around, and we started to laugh. It's pretty funny, this supposed great philosopher, and we're laughing at him. Why do people make excuses for philosophers? In the same period there was Newton, there was Harvey studying the circulation of the blood, there was Galileo pointing his telescope up to the sky, there were people with methods of analysis by which actual progress was being made. You can take every one of Spinoza's propositions, and take the contrary propositions, and look at the world and you can't tell which is right.

These 3 guys teach you about philosophy of action. Not about how to sit on your ass, do nothing positive and imagine that you are the ubermensh, your problems is not an actual problems and all that stuff. That's why they are the greatest philosophers.

Was reading Jameson earlier. Don't know how anyone could compete with:

"As we shall see later, in applying this new, albeit always-already-encountered, methodology ('mythodology') to the productions, negative or otherwise, of post-disaccumulative textu(r)al spaces, one must be cautious never to lose sight of the transmetahermanantic - both historical AND inter-subjectival - desubstantiations to which the text-in-itself can act as resembling intermediant."

This looks like a post from someone who's never read his philosophy. This is what he regards as the correct standpoint for the appreciation of women, taken from his essay "On Women".

"Without women, the beginning of our life would be helpless; the middle, devoid of pleasure; and the end, of consolation."

Myself because I don't need an authority figure to instruct me ideologically.
Me again because I'm not a dumbass and so don't need people to explain basic facts about the world in extreme detail using fancy words in order to make sense of them.

Do people tend to pick sides between Kant and Hegel? Or is it essential to carefully read both? It seems like you could spend years of your life on a single work by either of them.

Avoid Hegel like the plague. He essentially started the whole "nobody will notice if I just write a bunch of nonsense" trend that leads up to more recent charlatans like Derrida and the incoherent SJWism of the present day.

Kant's writing style was pretty horrific, but he was an actual philosopher with important ideas. After Kant, move on to Schopenhauer.
