What does /lit/ think of Cory Doctorow's fiction?

>> No.800992

Almost as bad as the crap posted on /lit/ for critique.

>> No.801016

It's like reading a 12 year-old's Bladerunner fanfiction.

>> No.803397

bump

>> No.803423

Cory Doctorow is an egotistical hipster fuck.

>> No.803430

Neil Gaiman disappoints me.

>> No.803439

His stuff is way too smug.

>> No.803468

I've only read little brother. It's definitely poorly written, but I still enjoyed it. Most books tend to gloss over technology, and I enjoy that Cory tries to encourage you to get into it.

>> No.803482

He's bad, especially when he tries to show you how "like, totally geek chic" he is.

Pretty much. It's a great book for 13 year old kids.

>> No.803488

He wrote a book called For The Win.

If that wasn't enough to make me hate him, all of his books try too hard to be HIP and COOL, with an added touch of Geek because Geeks are so cool, amirite?!

His novels read like third-rate copies of Snowcrash, right down to the liberated Grrrl characters kicking ass, taking names, and being edgy lesbians.

>> No.803508

Yeah, I'd encourage teenagers to read it, because he does touch on some interesting subjects.

>> No.803510

He's like a less masculine Olivia Munn.

Why? Teenagers aren't that stupid.

Yes they are.

Let's let Cory's prose speak for itself:

>The Turkish coffee shop on 24th Street fixed me up good with a go-cup of Turkish coffee. Basically, Turkish coffee is mud, pretending to be coffee. It's thick enough to stand a spoon up in, and it has way more caffeine than the kiddee-pops like Red Bull. Take it from someone who's read the Wikipedia entry: this is how the Ottoman Empire was won: maddened horsemen fueled by lethal jet-black coffee-mud.

Wait, what?

>> No.803581

Cory only talks about technology in the most basic sense. Any tech website could tell you what he tells you.

I think I'm gonna throw up, the writing is so bad...

>> No.803591

His newest book as far as I'm aware is For The Win. The name made me laugh for a second, but my god it was horrible. If I want to read about Asians playing WoW... well never mind that I don't want to read about Asians playing WoW.

>> No.803595

I'm a movie producer and I want to option all this. Turn it into a franchise with Miley Cyrus and sell them to you.

>> No.803597

>>803581
Yes, but he isn't meant to be spewing technical information. He gives you a brief overview and a practical application that sparks an interest and leads you to look these things up in greater detail yourself.

Any retard working at future shop could tell you what he tells you.

That's part of the point - he's not trying to reach the technical crowd, he's trying to bring non-technical people to awareness of important technical issues, such as how DRM actually does affect them and their future.

Try to have some perspective, here, /lit/.
