I was wondering if anybody was interested in a Discworld thread.

>> No.794912

I'd be more interested in a turtle thread.

How about a discussion on how shit Going Postal (the TV adaption) was?

Very shit, that's how shit.

The Golems were pretty bad, though.

Why do adaptations always have to be so shit? They could spread the enjoyment to people who otherwise wouldn't get it, but just wind up being so that the only way to enjoy it is if you're already familiar with it, and even then the enjoyment is lessened by the superiority of the source material.

Is it just me, or does Pratchett seem to be setting up a younger generation to replace the current characters?

In Unseen Academicals, it was strongly implied that Ponder Stibbons would be the next archchancellor of UU. Vetinari seems to be grooming Lipwig to be the next Patrician. The witches have Tiffany, Sam Vimes will probably be succeeded by Carrot.

I have to wonder if Pratchett is hoping he can manage to write one last book about the new generation coming in to it's own.

I've heard the acting in "Going Postal" is pretty good, but the effects are pretty lame. It seems the main problems were budgetary.

Probably so he can leave something for the people who are going to be succeeding him to work with. Which makes me sad.

Death will be a constant, if not we have Susan, and as for Sam, we might get his son instead of him.

Actually the Hogfather one pretty good. They cast it well, and didn't fuck around with the story.

It all went to shit with Colour of Magic, with it's god awful casting (David Jason as Rincewind for example), and how they merged two books into one, butchering the plot and cutting out all the cool stuff (Sender of Eight, Lady Luck, Water Troll, etc etc).

Plus, no fucking dungeon dimensions. Just Tim Curry with contact lens.

The replacement for Death didn't really work out with Mort, and I dearly hope it won't for Susan.
Because fuck Susan.

I'd love for someone else to take over, but I fear there only be one Terry Pratchett.
