embrace the abyss so that the abyss can embrace you and spit you out like hellfire onto the scorched earth empowering you to create the reprieve you so desire, pleb.

from a taoist POV, the void is the openness that allows one's cup to be filled. embrace openess and emptiness. it is like painting on an open canvas. be void.

That's the feel of despair OP, we all experience it, as humans who are consciously alive. Sure life isn't perfect. Its not even fair. Its dangerous. Its violent. Its sad. Its depressing. Its difficult. Its strenuous. But its up to you to decide if you should give up and be held down by those reasons. Life is happy when you learn to make it happy. Life is exciting when you see it as a chance and not a flat out suffering and death sentence. If you spend all the time you have being alive thinking about how bad it is and how bad it could be until you die then that's how it will be. But I do know that feel and I'm here for you.

I probably sound like a limp man but please do not.

The cure is this: find a position you respect in a society that you respect that makes you feel important, significat, and helpful. Do this shamelessly and guiltlessly. This is the key to actual happiness.

Do you live a normie life or have you tried minimising your obligatory worldly involvement? A bit of frugality and asceticism goes a long way towards becoming more free from miserable activities.

please, i left home and live in an empty cheap as fuck room, sleep on a sleeping bag on the floor and eat only fruit and vegs, reading all day. (i dont at all miss my old suburban life. i actually wonder how i managed to live it so long). the shitload of anxiety out of not getting anything is sure gone, i have a clear picture of how things have happened and why i am what i am, but my hands are tied cause u cant just go live in a forest, one is forced to stay in society somehow, and people make jobs, even the lowest unskilled ones, an insufferable hell.

all the reading helps you clean the shit inside you, but then the space thus created can only be filled by ones own creation and experience. that is what society does not allow.

Nice one lad, seems like you have all the basics down. Don't forget about dried legumes and brown rice though.

Can't you go on welfare? I live a similar lifestyle and find that without having to work staying in society is not much of a problem at all. When you live like a contented little animal there is little need for the the compensation you normally crave when you have a job, in my experience.

All that reading is probably part of your problem as well though. Just jumbling ideas in your head on and on all day only fortifies the neurotic idea that there is something to be done. Your void is created in contrast to the illusion of substance offered to you by comparing it to literature. Writers are often bad councilmen anyway since if they had peace of mind themselves they wouldn't have to write.

well i dont have to work either and even if ive tried some jobs, i dropped or was dropped and after that the first months were amazing. all the readings fed my whole self incredibly but up to a certain point i had to star putting shit in practice, living all the new stuff i had in my head. and this reveals itself as an unstated prohibition only visible when felt, even living by yourself not having to work.

i guess theres a border: if you keep the normal mindset but are free from its obligations you can be safe, but if you positively start to change that mindset this needs a practical and experienced testing to build something you can live as life.

im not sure in todays world it is fully safe to cross that border, cause is not practically allowed to do something truly different, and im afraid that after some time the mind tires of trying and frustration and just drops everything.

but yeah that last thing you said has crossed my mind too, maybe i should stop stuffing my mind... but thats why i looked for jobs, to have something manual to do... but theres nowhere where you can work in peace. ppl are there to make it hell.

your post exemplifies james' distinction between first hand and second hand religious experience, and why a genuine religious experience always get perverted when collectivized. this is also inevitable.

you should not be asking what but how, so you dont get a formula but an example you can apply in your own context. cause getting a formula will be like zhuangzi's comparison: if you have a car on land it works, if you have a boat on water it works, but if you have a boat on land youll only hurt yourself and wont move at all. i dont know your ground so i cant give you my boat/car; you have rather to pay attention, not to the thing, but to the relationship of it to its environment. this will give your mind the structure which you will then apply in practice.

I moved to a city that I liked. I have a group of friends and acquaintances and we make eachother happy. I set up fun events and shit for us to do. Poetry readings, hikes, stuff like that. We help eachother with writing, and of course shit on eachother's writing. It's awesome. For work I teach English at a community college. Not all students are excited, but enough are so to where I feel good about what I'm doing. Go create what you feel is missing. Be what you feel is missing. Finding a comfy sense of authority to do this is step one.

You absolutely must find a community that you can respect and enjoy. This is crucial. Or, you must value yourself so much so to where you feel that what you are doing is worth your own life. People who are depressed are really just very lonely.

I respect your ways, just like I respect Quakers and Buddhist monks, but I cannot do this. I find meaning in participation of a social process. I'm an educator and aim to raise people's minds to be critical, free, and capable. My meaning comes from helping other people, and thus participate in a sick society in the hopes of making an improvement.

I live fairly minimally as well, try to eat vegetarian, don't own a car, etc. Use my old Computress that is 7 years old.
