Please do provide something concrete in support of these, some sort of frame of reverence.
The first question has no meaning on its own.
The second seems faulty since, for one, the title itself is the least garish of any English translation. I'm fairly certain Garnett's would be considered more garish, for its Victorian affectation; maybe P&V too, for its soulless woodenness.

That may be true, I exaggerated a little. But, between a full time job and trying to start my own business (so I don't have to be a slave my whole life) I don't have very much free time. I am not taking any formal courses just self teaching. I also don't want to stop reading for enjoyment in the meantime.

There's a lot of great literature out there in many languages. It's not prudent to tell someone to learn an entire language if they're not already heavily interested in it.

If you have other reasons to learn the language (whatever they may be), go for it. I wouldn't recommend learning another language for the sole purpose of reading a book that hasn't been translated. It would take a lot of time to learn the other language well enough to catch subtleties that you would miss while trying to make sure you were reading the words correctly.

People overhype TBK too much. It's nit even the best Dostoevsky book. C&P and Demons are much better.

No it's just a proper translation.

As for the book itself, Avsey must have had one hell of a vocabulary. Just read any two chapters and you should get a glimpse of it. In the translators note Avsey said the most important factor was style. So I imagine Dostoevesky did use some ostentatious wording.

There have been at least a dozen different words to describe Fyodor's licentiousness in one way or another. And that is a conservative estimation.
