Keep in mind that a lot of the greatest books of 20th century remained as fragments (Kafka, Musil, Proust, etc)

He's my hero. And Josef Lada's illustrations are an eyecandy. Together with book they capture the dreamy feeling I had about Czech republic in childhood, I watched the film many times and have to reread the book after few years. My favourite parts are ofc Svejk's absurdal stories, the bits about drunkard chaplain(my another hero) and mad mayor obsessed with hanging.
What else I can say, Hasek was a big man.
