Who else closely identifies with the main character, Holden? It's weird, we're both really detached from the world in the same way, it's kinda cool at the same time.

I have a flat cap, it is not stupid.

I identified with him very much when I read it, but not so much now. I still identify with his confusion re: wanting to be an adult and wanting to stay young forever sometimes, but overall I've grown out of my "Holden Caulfield phase."

Thank god :/

I don't get you people, why write God if you're not going to use the capital letter? Do you believe but not believe at the same time? Make up your mind already.

lol that was a typo. If I'm referring to a the Judeo-Christian God like that, I'll use the capitalized form, if only because it's his name.

I won't capitalize pronouns referring to him/it, though. Most translations of the Bible don't even do that.

Why does it fucking matter if someone on an anonymous imageboard doesn't capitalize god?

>> No.789735

>>789721
Because they would be a member of the internet-atheist movement, who does silly things like try to remove any mention of the JC God from casual conversation, making casual conversation much less casual.

Frivolous reporting will get you banned. Literature on a literature board will not. Enjoy your summer, high-school student.

Most adolescents can relate with Holden, that's the fucking point. Of course you're going to outgrow your "Holden phase."

It's doubtful that, by telling the story of a whiny 17-year-old reminiscing on things that happened to him when he was a whiny 16-year-old, J.D. Salinger intended to give sweaty man-birth to a new gospel. It was just a story, and a rather simple one at that: It's a few days in the unremarkable life of Holden Caulfield, a teenager who pretty much hates everything (like every teenager) except children.
