Caledonia books is good if you've got mad dolla dolla (read: over £3), though it's a bit less fun than V&R the owners are more knowledgable, and since the shelves have a semblance of order it's possible to find specific books, whilst still being eclectic enough to see babylonian hymns and insane pulp scifi next to each other. I'm from Edinburgh so I don't know Glasgow too well but I doubt it. The West End seems to be the only endearing part of Glasgow.

In Edinburgh we don't have anything as cheap as V&R but we have lots of great book shops. Most of them are small though and you have to walk between them, which isn't a bad thing if the weather isn't bad.

Word Power Books is a great leftist bookshop, some good s/h places on South Clerk Street and on the Grassmarket as well. Also worth a mention but a bit further out is the Oxfam Bookshop in Morningside which has an incredible selection for a charity shop. Probably because most of the University Lecturers live in the area.

Unfortunately I have to leave my beloved Edinburgh in a few months and move down to Newcastle, which seems like a bit of a cultural cesspit. Anyone know any good s/h bookshops there besides the one ran by Amnesty International?
