What are some good (perhaps academic) texts regarding the occult that might help satisfy my cravings for horror?

I wish to learn about the insane ravings of ascetics, as long as they don't demand too much effort from me to try and decrypt their senseless musings.

Bonus points if it can look good on my bookshelf.

TL;DR: Easymode Brown Pill books?

You could try the Malleus Maleficarum if you want to get pissed off at circular logic being used like that's fine.

I dunno man, here's a random list that doesn't fit your requirements at all:

Principia Discordia
Liber Null and Psychonaut
Oven Ready Chaos
Book of the Law
Portable Darkness
Psychonaut's Field Manual

Also if you want more academic stuff, The Portable Jung, Hero of a Thousand Faces, and Myths to Live By.

I don't know about easymode, but here's the starter list for all the pills.
