Fuck that. Moby Dick is awesome. I don't mean that in the sense that it's chock full of literary depth and whatnot. I mean that it kicks fucking ass.

I haven't read every novel ever written, but John Steinbeck is pretty fucking tedious.

Moby-Dick? Overrated? Christ, man, it seems *nobody* likes Moby-Dick. If you're gonna call a classic overrated, go for something that's apparently immune to criticism, like Crime and Punishment. I hear people call Moby-Dick "dull" and "terrible" all the time.

(As a brief aside, Moby-Dick is awesome and OP most likely has ADD)

Brave new world. Good concept, terrible writing.

A lot of philip k dick stories as well. People seem to give SF free passes just because they have original concepts. But if the writing is below average, then the novel is still below average.

Completely agreed on BNW, good story, terrible writing, Huxley's worst writing.

My face when people call 1984 overrated

>People seem to give SF free passes just because they have original concepts

I have to say I've not encountered this - rather the opposite to be honest. I've met plenty of people who liked Dick and thus went out of their way to prove that he was something other than sci-fi.

i suppose contextually it was a good concept. by todays standards even the story is pretty fucking dull. little imagination after the first chapter imo

It's not really overrated, it's just that it basically pictures what happens when a teenage angst meets a man who is actually willing to make a move.
