Am I alone in not liking Neitchze? (I'm not the troll, he just got me thinking.) I agree with his points about rejecting blind adherence to exterior morals and rules, and creating your own internal system of beliefs and meaning, but I feel that he takes that to an extreme, to the point where the self becomes unchecked. No man is an island, and while you shouldn't let society control you and force you to conform, a healthy individual is partially shaped by his community and peers, and other external forces. With Neitchze it always just seemed so narcissistic, with the self being immune from criticism to the point of it being deranged (one's vices becoming their virtues and the like.) I understand how important he was for the evolution of philosophy, and I still enjoy reading his writing, but I can't say I'm a fan.

I always found that to be a very shallow and egotistical way of thinking, no personal offense implied. I found that everything functions in perfect harmony when left to it's own devices. Life is a balance between good and evil, love and hate, war and peace, pleasure and pain. Neither of them could exist without each other, so I try to incorporate both into my life in equal proportion.
