/lit/'s problem is the lifecycle and age of its users.

Anon enters /lit/ between 17-22
Anon makes threads on 1984 and Animal Farm
Anon starts to lurk and read /lit/core
Anon reads Pynchon and thinks he has made it
Anon becomes a piece of shit and recites the /lit/ koolaid to everyone
Anon realizes that everyone is talking about the same shit still
Anon gets sick of Pynchon and DFW threads
Anon didnt even really like IJ
Anon starts reading and making threads about other books that get no replies, or only reading suggestion threads.
Anon starts coming to /lit/ once every few months
Anon is now a reader, and cant deal with /lit/ anymore
